NORFOLK AIRPORT PROJECT WRAPS UP

Atlantic Electric completed this challenging airfield lighting project which included the replacement of 118 centerline lights on the main runway at Norfolk International Airport. The contract team was only allowed to work five hours each night prior to reopening the runway to air traffic at 5:15am each day. This runway centerline pavement repair and airport runway lighting project was completed over a three month period in which our crews worked seven nights a week. A unique feature of this project was that each light base can was stabilized by a helical pile prior to concrete placement. Some of the other airfield lighting systems updated on this project included mandatory signs, relocation of a windcone and new regulators and controls in the vault building. Virginia Paving Company hired Atlantic Electric to perform the airfield runway lighting systems work on this delicate and critical portion of the project. Our successful completion of this project on time and within budget ensures that Atlantic Electric will continue to be recognized as one the of the top airfield lighting contractors in the country.
